Cat ladies are weird, I said. That could never be me, I thought. And then life grew too messy and I needed a live-in friend—so along came Audrey. She’s needy and petty and compassionate and attentive, and this week she’s made things better. So if I’m a cat lady (I prefer “cat mom” but whatever), so be it; she makes me proud to wear the title.
